How To Throw The Perfect Boho Baby Shower

With “Baby S” due this July, I thought it would be fun to share some baby shower ideas just in case you or someone you know is expecting and need a little inspiration for hosting.

Last August I had the opportunity to co-host one of my dearest friend’s baby shower set amongst the gorgeous redwoods of Marin, California, on a gorgeous summer day. This baby shower was nothing shy of boho perfection all in celebration of our sweet mama-to-be, Holland!

Lucky for me, I was able to co-host this shower with three other girlfriends of mine. Each one of us played a major role in personalizing and perfecting this baby shower so that our mama-to-be felt loved, special and showered in every way possible.

Tips for hosting:

  • First and foremost, always keep your mom-to-be in mind – always! After all, this shower is in her honor so do your best to ask her about dates, times and shower themes that work best with her personality.
  • Secure a budget and guest list! Once your mom-to-be gives you the set guest list, be sure to come up with a budget. This will help guide you when determining your venue, food services, and party favors.
  • Choose your venue. Now that your guest list and budget have been set, you can get a better idea of where your shower is going to be held. Consider the time of year, guest list and budget. I am a big fan of intimate settings, so my co-host/friend Chantelle’s backyard was perfect for the occasion. This helped us put most of our money towards florals, a photographer, customized party favors, and decor.
  • Choose your theme. Once you have your theme, the rest of the planning starts to fall into place effortlessly. We knew our mom-to-be loved the idea of a garden party, so we took that idea, added her wild-child approach on travel and adventure and ran with it! Our theme resulted in backyard boho, filled with lush and gorgeous floral arrangments by Karen and her team of florists at Petite Petal Co. in Campbell, California.
  • Choose the perfect invitations and send them. Your guest should receive their invitations six weeks before the shower. This gives them time to reserve the date, RSVP and purchase a gift. A perfect place to snag your invitations? Minted.com. They have thousands of options to choose from and personalize in order to fit your theme. They also constantly offer amazing deals on their stationery that help you stay within your budget.
  • Plan a menu. Depending on the time, you can often get away with hosting an all appetizer and finger food menu for your party. Since our party was after 12:00 pm, we decided to go with a large cheese and charcuterie spread + some small finger foods. We also wanted to make sure this event was less formal, so lunch was not necessary in our case.
  • Come up with an agenda and timeline. Our shower included personalized games, gift opening, eating and socializing. Your goal is to come up with an agenda and timeline, then organize these activities in order to create a fun and effortless flow that will keep your guests entertained and engaged. I suggest starting your timeline once all of your guests have arrived to ensure everything runs smoothly.
  • Pick your party favors. Nothing says “thank you!” like a parting gift for your guest. For Holland’s baby shower, we came up with a gift that best represented her as an individual who was about to pass on some of her amazing traits to her daughter. With that being said, Holland is an absolute sucker for a good candle. So, we had Hometown Collective help us customize the perfect candle for our sweet friend. From the scent to the label, everything was perfect and personalized making it a special parting gift for everyone.
