The 10 Items That Helped Me Most During My First Trimester

At the start of my pregnancy, I found there were a lot more changes happening to my body than I had ever anticipated. These changes were not just physical, but they were mental as well. There were ebbing moments of shock and pure excitement while a handful of those moments brought panic and angst my way. I quickly caught on to the fact that these feelings were very normal…especially for first-time moms like myself. Life, in general, was changing right before my very eyes! There have been mountains and hillsides that were unmapped for this new mom-to-be, but I knew for certain that I was ready and willing to take on each adventure my pregnancy challenged me with, so long as I took them one day at a time. Over the past several months I have come by items that have made my first trimester much easier and more comfortable. Today, I am sharing some of my favorite go-to items in hopes that it helps you or someone you know who’s expecting.

A Good Water Bottle

I made it a point to find a water bottle that not only helped me guzzle down water, but was easy and convenient to carry around. This Brita water bottle is amazing because it has a double wall insulated Glacier stainless steel container that filters as you drink, which reduces Chlorine (taste & odor) found in tap water. I am also in love with the enclosed easy-sip straw which includes a built-in carrying loop for grab-and-go portability, and one-handed push-button lid. I now enjoy hassle-free hydration wherever I go!

Anti-Nausea Prenatals

During your first trimester, the last thing you need to worry about is putting something in your body that makes you more nauseous than you might already be… trust me. That’s why I was so excited when I started taking Ritual Prenatal vitamins with their no-nausea capsule design! I also fell in love with the fact that they are completely gluten-free, allergen-free and vegan certified. It’s important to note that these prenatals are non-GMO and contain no Colorants or Synthetic Fillers. Their mission is to inform expecting mothers as well as women who are simply trying to prep their bodies for pregnancy. They provide their consumers with the facts on why each vitamin plays a key role in providing nutrients to not only you but your growing baby!

An Informative Prenatal App

Information is key especially if you’re new to this whole pregnancy thing. I have gone through several different apps as most of them all just blend together for me, but everything about The Bump app woke me up and kept me on top of all things Baby S. What I love most about this app is that not only tracks your babies weekly growth, but it offers expecting moms incredibly informative articles to help you better understand whats going on with your body through each stage of your pregnancy. It also offers tips and advice on things to follow up with during your next scheduled prenatal appointment and gives you a list of recommended questions to ask your doctor. Lastly, there is a sweet little section of this app that also allows you to document your evergrowing baby bump week-by-week.

Belly Oil

Since the first week I found out that I was pregnant, I have been using Hatch Mama Belly Oil religiously. I felt my skin stretching early on and have applied on my breast and stomach every morning and evening since! What I love most about this oil is free of parabens, phthalates, dyes, & fragrance. It is also plant-derived, vegan, & gluten-free.

Reassuring Literature

I can’t say enough about this book! From preparing your body for pregnancy to walking you through every step of your pregnancy, Expecting Better gives an evidence-based approach to managing health and decision making throughout all stages of pregnancy. It is jammed-packed with enlightening facts, statistics and information you need to know to make the best decisions for you personally during pregnancy.

Drug-Free Nausea Relief

For the first 3.5 months of my pregnancy, I dealt with extreme “morning sickness” 24/7. These Psi Bands were gifted to me by my amazing cousin, and since receiving them they helped with the sickness I was feeling on the daily. They are drug-free and safe for both mom and baby! The adjustable band is perfect for personalized comfort and fit so they stay static on your Nei-Kuan acupressure point.

Comfortable Workout Pants

As a sporty individual, I have made it a point to stay active during my pregnancy. Long walks, Pilates, cycling, and yoga have been doing this body good, but I can’t say the same about my old tight workout pants. I haven’t completely given in to purchasing maternity pants just yet as I have found a wonderful alternative to staying comfortable while active in these non-maternity Lulu Lemon Align Super-High Rise Pants. The waistband is high enough to hug over your ever-growing bump but is still stretchy enough so it doesn’t restrict or feel as though you are cutting off circulation to your baby or waste.

A Comfortable Workout Top

This Lulu Lemon tank has been one of my favorite things to wear as it supports and still provides comfort for me during my workouts. Again, it’s a non-maternity top that works great while pregnant as well. With its amazingly stretchy material and built-in sports bra its an easy go-to for getting ready quickly.

Non-constricting Underwear

I have been a huge fan of Hanky Panky underwear for years now, and now that my body is slowly growing I can rely on their one size fits all underwear to grow right along with me! The material is made up of soft and stretchy lace that fits comfortably around my growing hips and never digs into my skin which is a huge plus.

A seamless and comfortable bralette

The first things to grow rapidly on my body were my boobs. My once cute underwire bras no longer fit me, nor did they flatter me in any way, shape or size! I quickly went on a scavenger hunt to find myself the perfect bearly-there bra and stumbled upon this amazingly comfy Seamless Ribbed Bralette from The Gap. They are soft, smooth, seam-free and all-around flattering + they give the perfect amount of support to these tender breasts of mine. I have them in just about every color and love that I can wear them while pregnant or later on down the line when I am nursing.
