As most of you already know, our summer months here in SF can be quite foggy and cold. Mark Twain said it best, “The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco”. Well, he was absolutely right about those cold summer days in SF that can quite easily be mistaken for winter weather to unfamiliar faces visiting. So, Liam and I decided to escape Karl The Fog + the cold and fled the city during the middle of July in search of a warmer California summer. Below are 7 reasons why Vintage House in Yountville should be on your list of places to visit:
Reason No. 1 | Proximity: We typically drive to wine country for sunny day trips that end with us eating at one of the many incredible restaurant’s wine country has to offer, but this time we decided to stay for two nights at Vintage House in Yountville. This charming hotel had been on our list of places to stay ever since we first visited Yountville together several years back. Its property is positioned right in the heart this walkable town and located next to some of our favorite restaurants and wine trails. Its cozy modern farmhouse design had Liam and I feeling right at home immediately!
Reson No. 2| Dreamy Digs: Cozy, quiet and serene. The rooms at Vintage House conjured up a sensation that one might get if they were traveling to Tuscany in the late summer while staying in a farmhouse-inspired villa! Complete with a fireplace, private balcony, and a hanging chair, Liam and I went into complete summer vacation mode as we indulged in our welcome cheese + dried fruit plate and bottle of Hill Family Estate Red that we enjoyed on our balcony.
Reason No. 3 | Free Rides: After settling into our hotel room, Liam and I decided to take the hotel’s complimentary bikes out for a pre-dinner sunset ride through the town. On our ride, we passed through the residential streets of the town completely in “awe” of how gorgeous the homes were there. We even stumbled upon The French Laundy’s culinary garden, which was a special treat since we missed it during our last visit to Yountville while dining at the Michelin Star restaurant.
Post bike ride around town, Liam and I freshened up and got ready for our dinner reservations at Redd Wood which is a six-minute walk from the hotel’s lobby. But in true relaxation mode fashion, we completely lost track of time which left us with no time to walk to our destination. Lucky for us, the hotel offers a free get-around shuttle in their adorable electric buggy’s which got us to our reservation on time! The shuttles run 100% on your schedule in order to get you to-and-from restaurants, wineries, and various other locations near the hotel’s property.
Reason No. 4 | Location-location-LOCATION: Because the hotel is located in the heart of Yountville there are so many fun shops, restaurants, and wine trails to explore. Below is a list of my favorite eateries that are a must-try during your visit:
- The French Laundry | A Michelin Star restaurant with a unique dining experience. The restaurant has also been dubbed “the best restaurant in the world” with back-up and complete agreement from the late Anthony Bourdain. It’s perfect for any special occasion!
- Bouchon Bistro | My personal favorite! There’s not one bad thing on their menu and they serve you endless amounts of their famous bread. Not to mention the hip interior and awesome ambiance.
- Bottega Napa Valley | This bistro has the perfect atmosphere for a romantic night for two but can also be a perfect fit for a group outing.
- Yountville Deli | This Deli offers specialty sandwiches, breakfast, and even boxed lunches. Perfect stop before heading off for a day of wine tasting and picnicking!
- Restoration Hardwear | Romantic ambiance and stellar cocktails! This restaurant is an experience all on its own. Its original bones were built in 1904 and listed on the National Regester Of Historic Places. The landmark has since been preserved by RH and reimagined as a two-story wine fault
Reason No. 5 | Wine Country Breakfast: Every morning during our stay, Liam and I woke-up bright and early to indulge in the hotel’s complimentary Wine Country-styled breakfast which was served every morning in the hotel’s main lobby. They offered fresh pastries, fruits juices, and other scrumptious breakfast items to help get our day going!
Reason No. 6| Epic Picnicking Areas Around Every Corner: During our last day at Vintage house, we decided to explore a nearby wine trail. So, we hopped on a couple of bikes, headed to Yountville Deli and picked-up items for picknicking and headed out for our adventure. To our surprise, there were quaint little parks for picnicking around every corner. Our first stop on our grand wine trial adventure was at Van De Leur Park to enjoy our first sips of wine and snacks.
On our afternoon wine trail adventure, we stopped at Cliff Lede Vineyards and Robert Sinskey Vineyards. Two very different wine experiences that are both worth trying out if you are headed toward the Silverado Wine Trail.
After, about 3 hours of bike riding and wine tasting, it was high-time that Liam and I head back to our cozy digs in Yountville to enjoy our last few hours soaking in the sun and amazing weather.
Which brings me to my final reason why Vintage House is a must when visiting Wine Country…
Reason No. 7| Poolside Relaxation: There’s nothing like indulging in a little poolside R&R after a long afternoon of bike riding in the warm summer sun! Vintage House offers the perfect spa-like setting for an afternoon of cooling off in the pool + getting in some vitamin C. They even have a tasty light bite menu if your in need of some replenishing after a long day of wine tasting and biking 😉 .
A special thank you to Vintage House in Yountville for sponsoring this post and for the amazing hospitality!
