Let’s Talk: Crohn’s, Food + Health
For those of you who don’t know, I suffer from an inflammatory disease known as Crohn’s. This disease causes an immense amount of pain in my stomach and has left me with too many unwanted doctor visits to count. For the longest time my condition left me feeling alone and embarrassed. Things were so bad that I would decline invitations to go out with friends and family for fear that I would have a flare-up/be in pain around them. In all honesty, I thought that my pain was going to become manageable with time. Years passed as I dealt with the day-to-day pain I was in. I wanted to believe that I was stronger than the pain and not intolerant to specific foods and beverages when in reality I wasn’t that at all. I was hurting and things did NOT get better for me over time, which ultimately left me up in arms searching for relief. I waited 2 1/2 years to realize that it was never going to go away unless I got help from a doctor. After several years of living with so much pain + anxiety I finally saw a specialist who helped guide me towards a healthier me. I also made connections with friends who suffer from the same condition, and along the way we shared our tips and tricks on how to sustain a natural flair up free life – choosing to keep medication to a minimum.
I have made it a point to heal my body in the most homeopathic way possible so that I can lead a normal and happy life without medication. I have also added a new spot here on my blog where I’ll share tummy friendly recipes and meals for people suffering with Crohn’s and/or Colitis.
