With one week down and 51 weeks left in 2019, I have decided to start my new year off with a set of goals instead of resolutions. In the past I have put my new years resolutions on a high pedestal that are often too high to reach. So, this year I am making a conscious effort to break that pattern by setting realistic goals for both my personal and professional career. Nothing feels worse than the thought of having failed yourself all because you missed one week of working out or whatever your resolution called for. The whole point of a new years resolution is to help you meet goals or otherwise better your life, so having this realistic mindset is more beneficial and a healthier option in my opinion.

Liam and I always start our year off with a goal, but don’t always set them in order of importance. This year I want to be mindful about prioritizing and addressing my goals in the order of which I think will benefit me most, and take it one month at a time in order to keep myself from getting overwhelmed. My hope with this process is that I will be able to meet goals that I’ve set for myself as well as reassess and reevaluate the importance of each goal on my list.  I will continue to refine, add and remove goals on my list to stay true to my original thought process of staying realistic with my goals throughout the year. As of now, my goals are as follow:

  • Disconnect and take more time to be present. Too often I find myself on my phone wanting to capture moments via video or photo and don’t actually take the time to take in the mental pictures and memories. This year I plan to fully live more in the moment and indulge in the present.
  • Give more projects and ideas I have for Brilliantly Bre my undivided attention and complete them.
  • Set intentions that will positively impact my blog as a business as well as a brand in order to have a prosperous future.
  • Time management. As we all know, time management enables you to work smarter in order to get more done in less time. This is an important goal for me to set and follow as my blog brand is growing and time sometimes gets tight and pressures are high. Time management = a less stressed, successful + happier me.
  • Focus on the important things. It’s all too easy to allow the little things in life to consume us, but it’s just as easy to focus that attention on things that actually matter. I have to remind myself that sometimes life is really that easy if you set your mind to it.
  • Overall punctuality in this industry is a MUST and although I am not terrible at being on time, I definitely have room to improve in this area 😉 .
  • Take time out of each week to try something new that might help spark my creativity. I’d really love to take photography courses, cooking classes and even take on more outdoor activities like tennis. Setting aside time once a week for me outside of work could do me some good.
  • Make more time to give back. I firmly believe that giving back to others is something everyone should experience on a regular basis. Giving back is where you give, and then nothing happens. No benefits for you, no recognition, nothing tangible gets sent your way. Your biggest reward is the realization that you’ve made a significant change in someone’s life. And if not “significant” then a positive change nevertheless. I would love to do more of this in 2019.
  • Treat my body with care. This is one that’s continuously on my goals list especially since I am living with Crohn’s Disease. We have all heard the saying “You only have one body, so take care of it.” and that’s exactly what I plan on doing more of in 2019. I want to create tasty recipes (obviously share them with you when I do) in order to sustain a happy stomach and healthy body. With that, I want to also incorporate discussions about living a healthy life with Crohn’s so that those of you with stomach conditions know that you’re not alone in this world and have support here.

No matter the month, it’s never late to start a goals list. Start your list (big or small), and let’s make 2019 our best year yet! Wishing you all a very happy and constructive New Year 🙂 .
